Unpaid Internship Opportunity – Florida Organic Growers is now accepting applications for their Internship program. The selected intern should be self-motivated, well organized and be a team player. The intern should have a passion for organic agriculture, fair/just food systems, community building and an interest in non-profit organizations.  The primary role of this intern will be to help administer the 2016-2017 Florida Organic Cost Share Program through outreach, communication with organic certifying agencies/producers and through application coordination and processing. Assistance with additional projects may also apply to this internship. Interns will receive one-on-one training and experience in an established, friendly non-profit setting. Other benefits include developing professional written/verbal communication skills and experience in project implementation and facilitation. Volunteer Intern – The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Volunteer Intern for the Parks and Recreation Division. The intern will assist in the Parks Natural Resources and Land Management Section. Duties include: field work including plant and wildlife surveys, GPS data collection, report writing, data management and more! Specific duties include assisting with research and analysis, special projects, program and/or policy development. The position will also help with the preparation of project reports and related data. The intern will conduct special studies in conjunction with a project,  analyze the data and make recommendations based upon the studies. Big Island Farms Big Island Farms is now accepting application for its Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 internship program. The internships have three month and one month options. The Fall 2017 ten week internship starts September 11, 2017 and ends November 17, 2017. The ten week Spring 2018 internship begins January 15, 2018 and ends March 23, 2018. Interns will pick a project theme in one of the possible 4 programs offered. Interns will then make a proposal outlined with a budget and get the materials/tools needed need to complete a their project. Programs include the following: Farm to TableOutdoor Recreation and AdventureEcological Design and Organic Agriculture. Internships include living arrangements with WiFi, washer and dryer available, meals. Siembra Farm Internship - Siembra Farm is now accepting applications for two Spring 2017 internship positions. The start and end dates are flexible but the internships will run from January  through June.  The selected interns will work a minimum of 10 hours a week and interns will have a chance to gain real hands on experience on a organ CSA farm. Interns will also be able to receive free vegetables as well. Paid Internships with the Arnold Arboretum - The Arnold Arboretum is now accepting applications for its Isabella Wells Hunnewell Internship Program. Internships can be in four different areas, Horticulture and Landscape Maintenance, Arboriculture, Plant Production or Collections Curation.  Interns will get real hands-on training, educational classes and will visit other botanical institutions. Interns are accepted for 12- to 14-week appointments (typically May through August) with the exception of a limited number of longer-term (18- to 24-week) appointments based on available funding.

Interns will work alongside professional staff in their host department and participate in instructional sessions across disciplines to develop a comprehensive sense of the Arboretum’s collections management practices. Field trips to other public gardens are offered throughout the summer to expose interns to the broader field of public horticulture and provide networking opportunities with professional staff at these institutions. Interns are encouraged to share their experience/knowledge and participate fully in the work of the institution. Interns will complete a capstone project as a group to address a real collections management issue and present their proposal to their peers and Arboretum staff. Paid internship with Rock Cobble Farm – Rock Cobble Farm is now accepting applications for Summer 2017 internships. Rock Cobble Farm is a 1200 acre private estate located in South Kent, Connecticut that is situated in the picturesque Litchfield Hills. The farm is comprised of sprawling woodlands, formal French style rose, cut flowers, vegetables/herb gardens bounded by boxwood and hornbeam hedges, extensive woodland garden, orchards, greenhouses, hay meadows and pastures, meandering stone walls, historic houses and barns.

Interns will gain experience in nearly all horticultural aspects of estate operation including: Plan installation and maintenance, IPM, Vegetable production, Cut flower production, Irrigation fertilization, Propagation, Arboriculture, Woodland management, Greenhouse maintenance, Turf management, Stone wall construction and  Beekeeping. Interns are expected to adhere to very high aesthetical standards in all areas and actively participate in all horticultural operations of the estate.  The internships run from May through August. Interns will work Mondays through Fridays from 8am – 4:30pm with some weekends necessary. Applicants should have the ability to use  horticultural tools and power equipment safely, have a basic knowledge of gardening techniques, be  industrious and self-motivated. Interns should have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Housing is provided on the estate and interns will receive a $560 weekly stipend. Full time paid one year internships - The Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania is now accepting applications for 12 month long paid internships. Positions are available in the following areas: education, urban forestry, plant protection, plant propagation, arboriculture, botany, horticulture, natural lands and the rose and flower garden. Interns will work alongside experts in the public horticulture fieldand take two University of Pennsylvania courses, Understanding Plants" and "Evaluating Public Gardens." These courses are offered through the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania. Paid Internship Opportunity - The Polly Hill Arboretum on the island of Martha’s Vineyard is now accepting applications for its Curatorial Internship Program. The internship will focus on all aspects of curation and collections management.  Specific opportunities include documenting the living collection using BG-Base plant records software, plant labeling, plant verification, collection of herbarium specimens, mapping, hands-on maintenance of the living collection, plant propagation, greenhouse, nursery management and interacting/working with the public/volunteers. This is a nine-month, full time position paying $15.00/hour for a 35 hour week. The start date is flexible start date is flexible and housing is provided nearby at The Nature Conservancy’s 90 acre Hoft Farm.

Ideal candidates for this position will be a recent graduate of a four-year college horticulture, botany, environmental science, museum studies or closely related program.  Priority will be given to applicants with a strong interest in public horticulture and in the management and curation of woody plant collections. Mechanical Intern -The Field and Fork Farm and Garden Program is looking for a student to work 10-20 hours per week to do tractor work in the Teaching Farm fields and to conduct preventative and scheduled tractor and small engine maintenance and basic repairs on a variety of machinery. This position will be responsible for operating and maintaining a John Deere 5403 tractor; a Kubota BX2670 tractor; tractor attachments including bush hog, rototillers, disks, and no-till equipment; weed whackers, walk-behind rototillers and push mowers. The Field and Fork Farm and Gardens are a program of UF/IFAS CALS. All equipment is located at the Field and Fork Farm on IFAS Research Drive near Fifield Hall on campus. This position is available either as an hourly OPS position, federal work study position, or as a for-credit internship (contingent on approval by your major advisor). RR &D District Farm Manager - Driscoll’s is now accepting applications for a R&D District Farm Manager in Oxnard, CA. The Farm Manager will develop and manage all aspects of farming for proprietary breeding test plots in the Oxnard District for all four of their berry products. This position is responsible for managing, planning, coordinating and implementing all work at these locations. Agronomist – Driscoll’s is now accepting applications for an Agronomist in Watsonville, CA. The position will work directly with growers/ranch managers to extend cultural practices and new technologies. The selected applicant will visit production fields to understand production methods, cycles and to support growers with technical advice. The position will monitor, evaluate and improve farming techniques of new cultivars at late stages prior to general farming release. Irrigation Supervisor – Cutrale is now accepting applications for an Irrigation Supervisor. This position will track weather/environmental parameters such as rain occurrence, forecast, soil moisture and evapotranspiration to determine wether irrigate or not. The position will coordinate with the Water Supervisor regarding cold protection, including monitoring the temperature, starting engines when it is close to the critical temperature and stoping engines when it reaches a safe temperature. The Irrigation supervisor will assure that all of the system (above and below ground) is working properly, free of leaks and is distributing evenly the amount of water desired. The selected applicant will take care of all irrigation stations and assure the proper maintenance/operation of the engines, pumps and automation systems. The Irrigations supervisor will also report the flowmeter readings, engine worked hours and maintenance performed monthly. This position will also keep track of water quality before irrigating and submit samples for analysis when necessary. The position will schedule crews to check for leaks, malfunctioning microjets and the general operation of the irrigation system. The Irrigation Supervisor will also coordinate the operation of fertilization, starting with hand-applied fertilization and switch to fertirrigation when requesteded by the technical management. Course Superintendent, Gainesville Country Club The Gainesville Country Club is now accepting applications for a Course Superintendent. The selected applicant will oversee the maintenance/construction of the 18 hole golf course and ensure that turf grass is repaired/maintained to established standards. Specific duties include maintaining all grounds and course maintenance equipment. The Course Superintendent will supervise the operation of the equipment repair shop. Additionally the selected applicant will supervise all planting, fertilizing, care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course. Other duties include selecting and preparing proper fertilizers/nutrients. The position will also develop and maintain drainage, irrigation and watering systems. The Course Superintendent will prepare the annual budget for the department and take corrective action as necessary to help assure that budget goals are met. Nevis is part of the St. Kitts and Nevis Federation in the Caribbean Sea. The successful applicant will work alongside the Horticultural Manager, leading Grounds Staff in the development and meticulous maintenance of the established landscape and natural areas. The applicant should have a Masters Degree or higher in Agronomy, Horticulture Sciences, Plant Pathology, or related discipline. UC Davis Student Farm is seeking a new director -The Student Farm at UC Davis (SF) is seeking a new director to lead the continued development of the SF as a learning community where students from many disciplines work to create, maintain and explore sustainable food systems on a 20+ acre farm. A key component of the Agricultural Sustainability Institute (ASI), the SF has served UC Davis students and faculty and the public with educational, research, and outreach opportunities focused on sustainable agriculture and food systems for 40 years. Each year over 400 students engage in staff- and faculty-mentored experiential learning through which they come to understand sustainability through the soils, crops, climate, and community in which they work and within programs ranging from backyard garden scale to mechanized crop and compost production.

Specific duties include developing/maintaining growing protocols and nutrient regiments. Handling all aspects of greenhouse operations and crew.
